Rainy Lake
August 25, 2008
Fishing has been HOT HOT HOT!! If you haven't already been up here, you need to come now. Walleyes are stacked on the reefs throughout the lake and are aggressively hitting everything in sight, and I do mean everything! No bait has really stood out over the last two weeks. As long as you get on top of fish, you can catch them with about every lure and technique you can think of.

St. Croix River
August 15, 2008
Best bets on the St. Croix River right now are fishing crappie, white bass, and smallmouth bass. Saugers catches have been better than walleye but still not as good as they normally are in mid summer. Plus Muskie are going well! For St. Croix Valley area Muskies, a good all day hunt should find a fisherman tangling with the gray ghost.

Leech lake-Longville
July 25, 2008
Fishing on leech continues to be productive. Look for walleyes on bars and shoreline breaks in 20' of water. Bottom bouncers and crawlers have been the most productive, but lindy's and leeches or jigs and minnows are also boating fish. The trolling bite is also good in the evening with shad raps and minnow raps in 8-12' of water.

Cass Lake MN
July 25, 2008
Musky action is starting to pick up more and more each day. Pretty much any kind of lure is producing fish. A lot of the cabbage beds still look kind of brown and worthless but if you find some good green stuff you will find Esox! Big pike have been very slow for my boat though. Not sure why, could be the surplus of baitfish around.

Brainerd Area
July 10, 2008
I think this is the time of the summer that they refer to as the dog days. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what they mean. Because the fishing sure hasn't been bad lately. For most anglers it has been downright outstanding. Sure the walleye fishing has been a little slow, but what can we really expect. I think that the fish are enjoying the stable weather we have been blessed with recently.

BWCA and Ely Area
May 20, 2008
Opener stared off great this year we had a late ice off and the big fish were still in the current areas. The ice came off the lakes with a day or two to spare for opener. My first group of the year was my new Romanian friends from Chicago Staying at Timber Trail Lodge. On Sunday morning we woke up to a few inches of snow and portaged into Basswood lake. The water temps were from about 43 to 44 degrees. We got into some nice fish right away and stayed on them the whole day. The big fish of the day was a 28.5 inch walleye caught by Olvi SR. We had a number of fish over 20inches. All of the big walleyes we caught were released! I attached a few pictures of some of the walleyes. The fish were in 17-23 FOW. We used lindy rigs and jigs tipped with fathead and rainbow minnows.

This month has been awesome for very large walleye. Many fish have been tipping the scales at 10pounds (hard to believe but true). There was a period of about five to seven days were the bites were minimum but the bite turn into huge walleye, this was definitely a period were you didn't want to miss a single bite.

Grand Rapids
July 18, 2007
It’s the 3rd week in July and Winnie is still producing lots of nice stringers. It is getting harder to get the fish to bite out there on the humps but if you work it over and over with the right bait you will get bit. I have been using bigger leeches and crawlers that are in good shape, now is not the time to have crappy bait. The fish have a smorgasbord of food down there and you need to make them want yours. The humps and bars have been the most productive for me in the 20-24 ft of water.
